NFL Week 2 Review

Week 2 of the NFL season started on Thursday Night with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going into Charlotte, NC and getting a big win against the Panthers. In a offensive driven league it’s good to see that there is still defense being played with both teams coming out and playing good defense. While the Panthers defense got the better end of it as far as Yards allowed. It was the Buccaneers defense that got the important plays when need to stop Carolina from reaching the End Zone. Only giving up 4 Fgs to the Panthers. Bucs win the game 20-14 leaders in this game Passing Can Newton 24/50 324 yards passing Rushing TB Peyton Barber 23 Carries for 82yrds 1td Receiving TB Chris Godwin 8rec 121urds 1td Tackles Car Luke Kuechly 17 Sacks TB Shaq Barrett 3 sacks Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston finished with just 208 yds. passing and 1 TD for the game. Played an error free game and with the way the defense was playing it was the perfect formula to get the win. Bucs face off against the Giants in week 3. Sundays Games

49ers 41 Bengals 17 After winning a tough game last week against Tampa Bay. Niners take to the road again this time in Cincy to come away with a convincing road victory. This week they went to the Running backs. Matt Breida led the team with 121 yds. on 12 car. Raheem Mostert added 83yrds on 13car. Jeff Wilson Jr added 34yrds on 10car. QB Jimmy Garopollo had a better game after struggling in week 1 throwing for 297 yds. and 3tds.

Lions 13 Chargers 10

One of the upsets of the week Chargers going into Detroit and losing to the Lions. In another defensive battle Lions gave the chargers everything they had. QB Matthew Stafford threw for 254yds and 2 td 2ints over came some adversity in the win. Lions defense held up getting a big interceptions off of Phillip Rivers Late in the game to seal the game. Lions Wr Kenny Golladay 8rec 117yds 1td continues to be a go to Target for his QB

Packers 21 Vikings 16

For the second week in a row. The Green Bay Packers Defense continues to show improvement. Picking off Vikings QB Kirk Cousin two times. Although Minnesota had a good day rushing the ball. Dalvin Cook 20car 154yds 1 TD with a 75yrd TD in the first half. He continues his hot start to the season. Packers were able to overcome that and find a way to win the game on defense. Something Packers fans have been wishing for. QB Aaron Rodgers with another so game 209yds 2tds . 2nd yr RB Aaron Jones got things going on the ground 23car 116yds 1td. Packers getting that balance they need right now which is a good thing.

Colts 19 Titans 17

First nothing gets a game going more than a fire breaking out on the field during pregame pyrotechnics display when one of the towers fell down on the field. So the game got off to a hot start as the Titans opening up their home season against the Indianapolis Colts. Colts where coming off a Tough loss in week 1. Titans coming off a huge road victory in week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. Two young teams with talent on both sides of the ball. Colts trying to show everyone that they can still get the job done with QB Jacoby Brissett (146yds 3tds 1int) behind center. throwing a 4-yard touchdown pass to T.Y Hilton with 4:38 left to win the game. Mariota finished on the day with just 154 passing and 1td. While workhorse back Derrick Henry had 15car for 81 yds and a TD. Colts back up running back Jordan Wilkins had 5 car for 82yrd with a huge 55yd run in the 4th qtr to set up the game winning TD for the Colts. Other scores Patriots 43 dolphins 0

Nothing to talk about here. It's the Patriots and Dolphins. Oh yeah and Antonio Brown scored his first TD with the Pats

Bills 28 Giants 14

Joah Allen and the Buffalo Bills are looking great to start the season off. The Bills defense is continuing to play well as they did last season. Allen finished 19/30 253 yds 1td and controlled the game. The Veteran RB Frank Gore had another solid game rushing for 68yds on 19car 1td. Along with solid defense help defeat the Giants. The only question for the Giants is how long do they wait to go to rookie Daniel Jones. As Eli Manning 26/45 250yds 1td 2ints continue to struggle early on. 2nd yr RB Saquon Barkley played well 18 Car 107yds and 1td. But was not good enough as the Giants struggle continue.

Seahawks 28 Steelers 26

With QB Ben Roethlisberger out with an Elbow injury backup and RB James Connor leaving the game. QB Kyle Rudolph did everything he could to lead the Steelers to a victory but came up short against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. Wilson led a late game rally to give the Hawks a win after connecting with rookie Wr D.K Metcalf on a 28yd TD rec late. Wilson threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns to give the Seahawks the lead, then used his legs and smarts to protect it in a 2pt victory that pushed Seattle to 2-0 on the season. Steelers drop to 0-2 on the season with many questions.

Cowboys 31 Redskins 21

This divisional rivalry never disappoints. Redskins came out early and started fast as they marched downfield and score on a Adrian Peterson Td which seem to energize the team and fans. Peterson was a healthy scratch for the first time in his career last week and there were many within the locker room who voiced those displeasure with the decision. But due to Injuries at the position to Darius Guice Peterson was activated for the game. Even with the fast start that didn’t stop the Dallas Cowboys from getting things going again. Dak Prescott looks like a different QB this season finishing the game 26/30 269 yds. 3td 1int also added 69yds rushing on 5 carried with a long run of 42. RB Ziek Elliot quietly rushed for 111yds on 23car that help add the balance to this new look Cowboys offense with Young OC Kellen Moore. Dallas looks to be a serious contender in the NFC right now. Cardinals 17 Ravens 23

For the 2nd straight week Ravens Lamar Jackson put on a show. Throwing the ball again (272yds 2tds). But this week he added something else. His legs and while rushing for 120yds on the day. That wasn’t even the story. The play of the game may have been the pass he made to Rookie Wr Marquis Brown on a 41yrd completion on 3rd down to seal the game. Ravens TE Mark Andrews continues his good start to the season 8rec 112yds 1td. Jackson finished on the day. Arizona Rookie QB Kyler Murray who went 25/40 349yds fell short again for the 2md straight week leading a 4th qtr comeback.

Jaguars 12 Texans 13

Another divisional matchup in the AFC South. The two favorite in the division clash and even though Jags where playing without QB Nick Foles who was signed in the off-season to replace Blake Bortles. The Jags played a great game on defense holding Texans QB Deshaun Watson for only 159yds passing 0tds and sacked him 4 times. Jags CB Jalen Ramsey was assigned the duties of guarding Hopkins and did a great job holding him to 5rec for 40yds. Jags got a surprise with QB Gardner Minshew who threw for 213yds and 1td really fav Jags life throughout the game. Leading the Jags on their last drive of the game to score a TD and put the game within 1pt 13-12. Jags opted to go for two and RB Leonard Fornett did not get in.

Chiefs 28 Raiders 10

If you just looked at the score of this game you would think the Chiefs dominated this game. That was the case but only in the 2nd qtr where the Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and that offense went into video game mode scoring all 28 of their pts. Normally I would say Raiders never had a chance but actually on the throws on the TDS where heavily contested. The QB and his Wrs just made better plays on the ball. Mahomes finished with 444yrds passing and 4tds on the day. Throwing for 300yds in the first half. After that 2nd qtr it made it tough for the Raiders to recover playing catch up for the rest of the game.

Saints 9 Rams 27

This was a rematch of the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP game from last season. New Orleans looking to get a win on the road against the reigning NFC champs and early on the game was very competitive. Both defenses playing good early on. Into the second quarter N.O QB Drew Brees walked to the sideline holding his throwing and after Aaron Donald was applying pressure on him and Brees hit his hand on the follow through after a throw. That would change the whole game as he left and never returned. In came Teddy Bridgewater who has not played significant football since he suffered his knee injury with the Vikings a 4yrs ago. For the first since 2016 New Orleans was held without scoring a touchdown and QB Drew Brees will certainly be missing some time with the thumb injury. QB Jared Goff finished the day with 283yrds 1td and 1 rush TD to lead the Rams to victory. Cooper Kupp is showing why he was a major part of the Rams offense with his 63yrd run after catch which set up another Rd from the 1yrd line. Kupp ended the day 5rec for 120yrds. Brandon Cooks finished the day 3rec 74yds and a TD of 57yrds.

Other notable actions from around the NFL.

Bears 16 Broncos 14

Broncos scored a TD late in the game to bring the score to 13-12. Broncos went for 2pts and converted it to bring the score to 14-12. The next drive Bears get the ball. QB Mitch Tribisky was sacked by DE Chubb. Refs called him for a personal foul penalty which put them at mid field. Tribisky then night time to find WR Allen Robinson for a 25 yrd gain as time expired. But After review Fever called a timeout with 1 sec left to give the game to kicker Eddy Pineiro who nails the 53yd FG for the win. In a slew of emotions the last min of the game. Eagles 20 Falcons 24

Julio Jones ran in a 54yd TD on a fourth down and sealed the game for the Falcons. It took that effort for the Falcons to win after Matt Ryan 27/43 320yds 3tds and also 3ints on the day to squander a 17-6 lead. Eagles QB Carson Wentz then led the team on the comeback 25/43 231yds 1td 2int for the Eagles to take a 20-17 lead. Julio Jones finished the day with 5rec 106 2tds and Calvin Ridley 8rec for 105 and 1td. Eagles had a chance on the last drive when Wentz seem to hit Nelson Agholor (8rec 107yds 1td) down the sideline for a sure touchdown but he wasn’t able to haul it in and Falcons then after that made the stop to hold off the Eagles in the end. Great week 2 of football which will end tonight with the Cleveland Brown facing off against the New York Jets.
