Where Do The Fines Go By Chicago Joe

It seems every week there are more and more fines in the NFL. Ndamukong Suh and Vernon Gholston have already been fined $100K each, the Jets Pats games drew more than $88K in fines, and anyone who touches a helmet gets a $21K fine . The NFL is on pace to hand out over 6 million dollars in fines in the 2013 season. 6 million dollars worth of fines, really, but where does that money go? Well after a little research I found out that they use this money for charitable purposes, so I guess I can’t be too upset about that.

The NFL and the NFLPA come to an agreement to which charitable organization the fine money should go to. The NFL annually gives around 200 million dollars to charities around the country. Some of these charities are the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund, Vincent T. Lombardi Cancer Research Center, and the ALS Neuromuscular Research Foundation. Some of the money also goes toward the NFLPA Player Assistance Trust which is set in place to help former players and their families in a time of need.

It is very well known that I am not a fan of Roger Goodell and most of his policies, but the way he handles the fine money for the NFL is very impressive and I, as a man who lost both of his parents to cancer at a young age, I appreciate the donations to the cancer research funds. Roger Goodell I commend you for all you do for the charities and I hope you continue to hand out these fines for rule breakers, just take it easy on my Chicago Bears. We hit clean every play.
